Early this afternoon Oscar who is staying at The Secret Campsite with his Dad John, spotted the first slow worm of the year which was being attacked by an army of black ants. He managed to pick it up and save it from its fateful end and has just run off to hide it somewhere where it can recover. He then explored further and found one of the reptile shelters that we have built, where he discovered even more of them.

Cluster of slow worms at The Secret Campsite

Barcombe Beaver Scouts built the reptile shelters around the campsite last year and they are proving to be a great hit with the wildlife which lives in and around The Secret Campsite down here in Sussex.

  1. Oscars lifetime dream has been to find a slow worm, thanks Secret Campsite for making his dream come true...!

    • A budding David Attenborough, it was fantastic to see someone so enthusiastic. If he comes in June he can see the glow worms which are intriguing and we have a wildlife weekend in July with Sussex Wildlife Trust.

  2. We will definitely be back for one or both of those !
