We have just finished putting up The Gridshell which is the new sleeping accommodation at The Secret Campsite, perfect for glamping near Lewes. It was designed by Jason Thawley of Tree Tent fame.
We finished putting the final canvas layer on just as our first guests arrived for a 5 night stay, although Matt very kindly also brought his tent in case we were delayed. The Gridshell is a beautiful and unusual space made from steam bent ash, aluminium, and stainless steel braces, and it sits on the platform that we used for the Bell Tent last year.
As you can see from the photos it has 2 double futon beds and a couple of roll mats for extra guests and it can sleep 4 adults in total plus 2 children. This is the first Gridshell structure that Jason has built, although 2 more will be going up in the next few weeks. The Gridshell is in the orchard part of our campsite which is 5 miles north of Lewes in East Sussex and is just one hour from London by train.
Our first guest described his night in The Gridshell as spiritual.
