The Gridshell
Jason Thawley of George Clarks amazing spaces fame, designed and built his first Gridshell for us. The structure is built from locally sourced wooden laths of ash. These are clad in a heavy duty marine canvas. The Gridshell is located in the orchard part of the campsite and has its own firepit. There is an adjoining grass area where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine and wildlife.
How many can stay
We provide 2 double beds with mattresses and 2 extra roll out mattresses for those sleeping on the floor. The Gridshell can sleep a maximum of 5 people (a maximum of 4 of which can be adults). You may chose to erect an extra tent on the grass area alongside The Gridshell, where your friends or family can camp. This is fine, as long as the total number of people on the pitch is 5 or less, including those sleeping in The Gridshell.
What we provide
The Gridshell has its own fire pit with 2 eclectic chairs where you can sit and relax in front of the campfire. There is a willow withy and table for campers to cook on which offers limited protection from the elements, so if you need shelter, please bring your own see below. We provide basic cooking equipment including a camping stove, a kettle, saucepan, frying pan, mugs, plates and cutlery for your trip. There are free hot showers and flushing toilets at the campsite. The Gridshell has simple low level lights inside
Why not read our Escapees Handbook before you arrive for some ideas on how to switch off.

Don’t forget
We don’t allow any cars or pets in our camping areas. Nor do we have large groups of campers, or any music on the site. The Secret Campsite is focused on providing a great habitat for wildlife and we strive to minimise our impact upon it. In turn this creates an amazing space for families and small groups of friends.
In order to accommodate these worthwhile idiosyncracies, we have a small fleet of wheelbarrows and trollies. You are very welcome to make use of them to transport your belongings to the pitch.
