George Monbiot is a great man but he doesn’t like sheep which is a shame if you are four footed and covered in wool. I do like sheep but only when they are doing a good job rather than hoovering the upland landscape and devoiding it of any wildlife.
Our sheep are used to control different areas around the campsite so that we always have a varied mosaic of habitats where lots of different creatures can flourish. Some parts are just recently cut back others have been left for 7 years and some are turning to scrub and the brambles are invading.
This provides a brilliant space for campers to enjoy. The pitches stay screened and the neighbours who might be noisy are owl, bats, voles, mice and if you are lucky nightingales. Now that feel like real camping to me and not the normal housing estate in a field that other sites end up feeling like.
