In September I went along to the Bentley Woof Fair to meet up with Jason Thawley from Luminair who was exhibiting a rather exciting variation on  traditional camping, the Tree Tent. The Tree Tent is an eccentric spherical structure suspended between a number of mature trees and covered with a snug fitting and weatherproofed canvas jacket. It has two windows and a door, and was recently featured on George Clark’s amazing spaces. We are waiting to hear back from Lewes District Council following our submission of plans to instal one of these futuristic new Tents, here at The Secret Campsite in Sussex. Last week the Parish Council in Barcombe approved our plans to site the Tree Tent on the edge of the Ancient Woodland which surrounds the campsite on three sides. If approved, it will be suspended 2 metres above the ground with views to The South Downs, and will be accessed via a raised walkway from the edge of the camping meadow. We should hear back from Lewes District council by mid January and then we hope to have the tent up and running as an exciting camping get away for couples from April 2013.

  3. Thanks for showing us around the secret campsite on Saturday. It is so very beautiful. Can`t wait to try out the tree tent. We would like to book for a time when the glow worms are at their best. How many people can it accommodate? My brother would like to book at the same time on a pitch nearby. regards, Ingrid

  4. Thanks for showing us around the secret campsite on Saturday. It was really beautiful. We can`t wait to try out the tree tent. We would like to book in July,(you said there was a time when the glow worms are at their most abundant). My brother would also like to book a pitch at the same time with us. Regards, Ingrid

    • Morning Ingrid,
I'll let you know as soon as it is live on the site. The glow worms are great from July onwards until later in the year, aug / september if we are lucky. The tent can hold 2 adults and 1 child, but you can also pitch a tent on the grass area beneath the tent which is reserved only for tree tent inhabitants, up to a maximum of 4 more people.
Look forward to seeing you in the summer. regards

  5. This sounds fabulous, please keep me posted when you are up and running, any idea of prices?

    • Hi Maggie,
Thanks for your question. The Tree Tent is £95 per night with a minimum of 2 nights at weekends, and it is available now although fast booking up.
hope to see you here during the summer
