We took part in the RSPB’s Garden Bird watch at the weekend and this was the list of birds that we saw in our allotted hour. We did the survey by the house rather than over in the camping meadow so there are ore domestic birds rather than the little flock of Long Tailed Tits and some of the less commonly seen birds. The aim is to note the maximum number of each type of bird that you see at any one time. This avoids repeatedly seeing the same bird and hence vastly increasing the population of that specific species.

Disappointing absences from The Secret Campsite list were the Green Woodpecker who we see a lot, the Goldfinches, we have a little flock that enjoy the thistles around the camping meadow, our Bullfinch who is a regular if discrete visitor and the Barn Owl who we often see tracking across the camping meadow looking for food, particularly at this time of year when the campsite is empty.

We saw the Carrion crows nick some bread from the bird table but it would have been good to have recorded one of the pair of Ravens that we often hear honking in the woods next door.

Here is the list seen on monday morning over the course of 1 hour

Great Tit

Coal Tit

Blue Tit

Blackbird

Dunnock

Magpie

Carrion Crow

Nuthatch

Great Spotted Woodpecker

Robin

Song Thrush

Wood Pigeon
