This morning the 15 various mountain and island breeds of sheep that we have been hosting at the campsite set off for their spring time pastures in Albourne just over the border in West Sussex.

The sheep have been grazing the camping meadow and The Orchard to remove the dead grass and also to eat some of the encroaching brambles and thistles. This allows the grass and wild flowers to remain a large part of the herbage in the camping areas which encourages in lots more wildlife into the campsite. The end result of all this is that campers staying at the Secret campsite get to see plenty of species during their trip here. We particularly enjoy the glow worms in July.

We will miss checking the sheep each morning and watching them stotting down the large hummock in the orchard. Our loss is Albournes gain. How philosophical.
